View(s):My trip to Nuwara Eliya
We went to Nuwara Eliya by train. It was very beautiful. We saw mountains, waterfalls, vegetable farms and tea estates. It was a very long trip. At last we came to Nanu Oya Station and went to Nuwara Eliya by a cab. Then we came to the hotel. After that we had lunch and watched a bike race and a horse race. After that we went to the Victoria Park. I spent a lot of time there and we went on a double decker bus around the Gregory Lake. At night we came back to the hotel. The next day we went on a boat. I saw a sea plane landing in the Gregory Lake. We enjoyed the trip very much. Then we came home happily and safely.

A pencil speaks
I was born in Sri Lanka in a large factory. There were so many colourful and different types of friends with me. I was put inside a box.
When the box was opened, we were in a bookshop. People were coming and buying my friends by giving money to the shopkeeper. One day a little girl came and brought me to her home.
I am red in colour. I am tall and smart. I love my mistress very much because she treats me well. She sharpens me till I get pointed. Her handwriting is very beautiful. She doesn’t put me inside her mounth or in ink. She has kept me in a pink pencil case with some other friends. I give my fullest support to her to write beautiful letters.
I am very clean. But now my time is over. I’m 5cm long. In another week I will die. But I’m happy because I gave my support to my mistress.

JBV creates a Media Station in English
May 30 and 31 were two very important days in the calendar of Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya (JBV). This is because the whole school was converted into a media station. The programme as known as the ‘Life English Channel’.
It was totally conducted in English. It was organized by our English Unit in order to improve the English speaking skills of the students.
There were ten studios. They were Audition, Screen test, Reality Show, Round Table (an Interview), Weda Medura, Quiz Whiz, Cookery Page, Dubbing, Children’s Corner and Classroom. Our madam principal Mrs. H. A. S. Gunathilaka gave us all the facilities and guidance. All the neighbouring school took part. They enjoyed the programme and thanked us for making this opportunity
available.
Mr. Chandima Rasaputtra of the Ministry of Education visited the media station and commented on our talents. Dr. Ramesh Pathirana who visited us said that he had never got such an occasion in his childhood.
He said the programme was well organized and added his blessing to us. He also congratulated us for our English speaking ability.
May this note be in encouragement and gratitude to our dearest teachers, and madam principal, who organized the programme
‘Life English Channel’.

My hobby
Hobbies are fun and they make our hearts fill with joy. My hobby is reading. I do it in my free time. I have read
lots of storybooks and magazines. My mother helps me to read books. She brings me storybooks and many other books. My sister also likes to read books. When my mother is not at home, she helps me to read.
By reading we can learn lots of things. My favourite storybook is ‘David Copperfield’. I borrow books from the school library to read in my free time.

The subject I enjoy most
The subject I enjoy most is Science. I like Science because it is an interesting subject.
I learn about the environment and new inventions.
Our teacher explains
science in an interesting
way. Sometimes we do
science experiments in the
laboratory. Sometimes
I do the experiments at home.
During my leisure time
I read books on science.
It improves my knowledge about science. Everytime
I get good marks for science. I want to do my AL in the
science stream.
One day I want to be a
scientist and do a service to the world.
