SOSL highlights young musicians
View(s):This year, the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka will feature a talented young pianist at its Young Soloists Concert on July 31 at the Navarangahala. With the generous aid of HSBC, the SOSL has, for the last 17 years, encouraged young musicians to pursue their musical dreams by showcasing their talent at the Young Soloists Concert .
Featured this year is Louis Perera, who will be performing Mozart’s piano concerto no. 24 in C minor. Louis says his interest in music was first ignited by Gilmary Rodrigo when he was only four. He later became a student of Sheryl Perera, and more recently of Eshantha Peiris, with whom he also studies conducting. An enthusiastic and very talented musician, Louis has received many awards for examinations as well as local competitions and festivals.
The SOSL also will be performing one of Dvorak’s most beloved works—his 9th Symphony, popularly known as “The New World”.
Also on the programme are excerpts from Moritz Moszkowski’s first set of Spanish Dances.
The Young Soloists Concert will be conducted by Dushyanthi Perera, and is made possible by the generous support of HSBC. Tickets and box plan are available at the Lionel Wendt.
