Housewives tired of the same old fried rice and children looking for tasty food will find some answers in an old favourite- ‘Astra’.
Unilever introduces ‘Astra Fried Rice’, a new recipe that can be made with ease and that also saves time using Astra margarine instead of oil. The company says Astra is an excellent source of Vitamin A and D, provides children 25% of the RDA of energy and 33% of the RDA of protein along with many other essential nutrients.

“Astra has, over 40 years been a companion in the kitchens of over 75% of households and is being sold over 80,000 stores around the country,” Marketing Manager Dinesh de Mel told a press conference last week. “Sri Lankan mothers and children stand to benefit from Astra Fried Rice, as children are said to love its aroma and taste, while mothers can be at ease knowing they are giving their children a nutritious meal that they will enjoy.”

The two biggest problems faced by Sri Lankans, especially children are malnutrition and hunger, and the biggest challenge we have is lack of time,” says Consultant Dietician, N.M.S. Hettigedara recommending that we need to add at least one fruit per day to our diet, drink eight glasses of water, increase the amount of vegetables and go for baked food instead of fried. “We need to change to low fat alternatives, minimise fast food and go for better cuts of meat. More fruits, especially citrus fruits are excellent along with green and yellow vegetables,” he recommended.
