SLF makes its identity in craft level in Hotel Management Programmes

Inauguration of the “Craft Level Professional Course in Hotel Management” for the second batch of students along with the passing out ceremony of the first batch of students

The Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF), Sri Lanka’s National Centre for Leadership, Education and Training coming under the purview of the Presidential Secretariat has signed an agreement with the ‘Education for Knowledge Society Project’ funded by the Asian Development Bank to conduct a Craft Level Certificate Course incorporating the basic disciplines of Front Office, House Keeping, Kitchen Production & Cookery, and also Restaurant & Bar. This course will lead to a “Professional Certificate in Craft Level Hotel Management”. This is a Tourist Sector Training Scholarship programme that has been planned with the aim of enhancing the prospects of employability with relevance to the tourism industry and is meant particularly for O/L and A/L students who have not qualified for higher education.
The first batch of students numbering 32 who followed the “Craft Level Certificate in Hotel Management” has successfully completed the course and the Certification Ceremony was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation along with the inauguration ceremony of the second batch of students who enrolled for this course.

Tourism is an upcoming industry in Sri Lanka with a great demand and is also a breeding ground for lucrative jobs in the Hotel industry having high potential when compared with the respective professions like Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants and Marketers. The Global demand for competent professionals in the Hotel industry is growing and the demand in Sri Lanka is increasing rapidly and will be an effective agent in minimizing the unemployment rate in Sri Lanka.

The SLF is happy to state that the students of the first batch who passed out completing the course have secured jobs in five star hotels in Colombo. Also, the SLF has an overall service portfolio for training academics for the Hotel Industry and is an accredited training centre of Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (SLITHM) the former Ceylon Hotel School and job placements will be done in collaboration with National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA).

The above Programme was conducted as a one month course which covered minimum 200 contact hours including both theory and practical aspects in Hotel Management. This is a Scholarship programme and SLF has been assigned to train students of low income families who are school leavers after their O/L and A/L examinations and who have not qualified for higher education. This project is starting for school leavers in the Western Province in the first round.
