Sri Dharmaloka College celebrates 75th anniversary
View(s):Sri Dharmaloka College Kelaniya, celebrated the launch of “Harasara” a series of activities and programmes commemorating the 75th anniversary of the school at an event organized by the school management, welfare society and the senior and junior past pupils
association.
The launch event was held in honour of the 125th commemoration of Sri Dharmaloka Thera at the school premises, and was graced by Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Ven. (Dr.) Velamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thera who laid the foundation stone to the proposed development of the statue of the late Sri Dharmaloka Thera, founder of the Vidyalankara Pirivena.
A pinnacle event celebration is scheduled to launch in October under the patronage of His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa, including the foundation laying ceremony for the college pool, the opening of the “Dhamlo Waruna” Education Exhibition.
Elaborating further Col. A. G Nimal Jayaweera – Principal of Sri Dharmaloka College said, “We journeyed long, from the birth of our college, to where we are at the moment. We wish to thank all of the individuals who came forth in developing our college, hence we named this occasion “Harasara” a tribute to all who strived towards developing Dharmaloka”.
A variety of commemorative events comprising, sports activities, talent shows, a blood donation camp, a medical camp, scholarship schemes for needy children, connecting with retired teachers and a walk will also be organized by the college.
Joint President Junior Past Pupils Association Wellington Perera said, “We came together as one team to produce a series of events honouring our alma mater. I would request all the past pupils both in Sri Lanka and overseas to rally around us and connect with us in a venture to continuously uplift the standards of Dharmaloka”.
Sri Dharmaloka was established in Peliyagoda in 1938 under the patronage of Vidyalankara Pirivena. It was named after the late Sri Dharmaloka Thera, founder of the pirivena. Sri Dharmaloka College is one of the well-established prominent national schools in the Western province of Sri Lanka. In the 1950s, the college moved to its current location in Kelaniya.
