A strange fight took place recently at a cricket match. The losers had a free-for-all with lunch packets (buth packets). Spectators watched the spectacle with amazement! The reason for this could be that there is a lot of disagreement between players and selectors. So the buth packets flew high. This incident took place at a leading club in Colombo who were entertaining a team from Ambalangoda.

All for a worthy cause

A cricket umpire is embroiled in controversy for allegedly taking a bribe from a female cricketer. It is said that this lady cricketer had approached the said umpire, with her husband and had handed over a sum of Rs. 56,000. The umpire concerned is not bothered about the news as he wants to help deserving and upcoming cricketers. As to why this amount was given to the umpire remains the big question

Not aware of qualification

At the Pune Asian Athletic Championships, the Sri Lanka 4×400 meter relay team, which pocketed a bronze medal, had qualified to represent Sri Lanka at the World Athletic Championships to be held in Moscow on August 10. The Sri Lankan officials present in Pune were unaware of this. They were brought up-to-date of the fact by officials in Sri Lanka who phoned officials in Pune and informed them of this happening. The relay team will now proceed to Moscow.

No qualifications

Two members have been appointed to the interim board of the cycling federation by the man in charge. It so happens that neither of them have the proper qualifications to be on the board. One is a coach and has no proper qualification and the other is an official who had failed an examination on the subject.

Rs. 20 for a plantain

It has been brought to light that girls who are keen to play hockey have been asked to pocket out as much as Rs.50,000 for a season for their meals and refreshments. In the meal sheet a plantain is said to cost Rs.20. The other charges too are pretty irregular. The girls are in a spin over this. How can they pay so much just to play the game they love so much? The best option is to give up the game.
