Holy Cross Walk 2013 & musical night a huge success
View(s):Holy Cross Walk 2013, organized by the Old Boys’ Union of Holy Cross College and the Management was successfully completed last Sunday (21st July). The walk which started in front of the College at 3.00pm with the starting signal made by the Minister Rohitha Abegunawardena continued to the Kalutara clock tower and back towards the school. It was concluded by the Rector’s speech near the Holy Cross Church. Around 5.30pm a large number of old boys flocked near the College with specially designed T’shirts, Hats and College flags with the intention of participating in the walk which was organized after ten years.
The event was properly planned adding large number of varieties to the walk which was held under the theme of “Let’s Walk to Swim”. Decorated classic cars, Double decker bus, Horses, Elephants and the items by the students added real glamour to the event. With sound of trumpets mixed with mouth organs of the old boys, entire Kalutara town was converted to an attractive entertaining place during the event. Due to the preplanned traffic arrangement by the Kalutara police, the Walk continued in the middle of the road smoothly without much disturbance to the traffic flow of the town.
The Kalutara town was decorated with Holy Cross flags and well-wishers cutouts & banners. Also special mobile stage was located in the middle of the road for the media representatives. According to the project manager Mahendra Perera, more than 6000 participated in the walk this year. Mr. Perera said the participation of the old boys was far more than what was expected and it is an encouragement to the executive committee members of the Old Boys Union for their immediate target to construct 25m long 6 lane swimming pool.
Also, the musical night with the participation of Marians together with Bathiya&Santhush held on the same day was a mega success. The beautiful dancing items presented by the Prashadi dancing academy was a great attraction. Corrine Almeida, Athma Liyanage and Amal Perera also performed on the same stage. According to the organizers more than 1.5 million rupees worth of tickets were sold.
