My best friend
My best friend’s name is Sarah Fawaz. Sarah is tall and has a fair complexion. She has black hair and brown eyes. Sarah and I have been best friends ever since the fourth grade. Sarah’s hobby is reading books and her favourite colour is pink. She is good in her studies and always helps me out in anything I need. Sarah is a great friend. She is funny, friendly and cool.
We share all our secrets and there isn’t even one secret I haven’t shared with her. In my eyes Sarah is the best friend anyone could have.Once someone told me during school you will have friends that come and go but you will also have a friend who will stick by your side forever and I think that I have found my friend whom I know will stick by my side forever!

The group of monkeys
There is a group of monkeys who come to our neighbourhood. There are three of them in the group. They are called Sri Lankan
‘Kalu Wanduras’. It is an endangered species. The urban squirrels have not seen such big, black things jumping from tree to tree so they are stunned. The crows keep pecking at them whenever they come by. The neighbours dogs will not stop
barking at them. The monkeys jump from tree to tree swinging on the branches. Sometimes they run on the roofs. They look both hungry and thirsty. There are hardly any fruits on the trees for them to eat.
Once I saw one of them drinking water from our bird-bath. I throw pieces of coconut for them. They slide down the trees and pick the food like thieves, go up and sit on a branch eating the coconut pieces just like men. Sometimes they fight with each other but most of the time they are very friendly. I feel sorry for them.
People cut trees and they have very little jungle left. I think that’s why they come to the city looking for food. I hope people will care for them and not treat them as a nuisance.

How to stop Environmental Pollution
The environment is a precious gift from Mother Nature. Because of that we have to protect our environment. Animals, waterfalls, mountains, forests, trees are a few elements of the environment but some people are not aware of the value of it.
Sinharaja Forest is one of the natural heritage sites in our country. Some Sri Lankans are not aware of the value of this forest. When they go on trips, they destroy the plants, throw polythene bags everywhere and litter the entire site and destroy the beauty of nature. As nature lovers we should protect Mother Nature for our future generations.
The air, water and soil of the environment is struck with pollution. Water is affected by the waste that is released into the waterways by factories. As concerned citizens we should not dump garbage on either sides of the roads and near lakes. As school children we must understand the value of the environment and that it should be protected in every possible way.
In conclusion, we all should get together as one family and protect the environment. We must educate our brothers and sisters by
handing out pamphlets and we must do things in an environment friendly way. This will help is to reduce pollution which may arise in the future.
