‘Centenary Bar’ at SSC
View(s):The Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) one of Sri Lanka’s premier sports clubs opened its refurbished ‘Centenary Bar’ last week to members and guests as the newest and the trendiest bar in town. Originally declared open in 1999 to celebrate 100 years of existence of the club, the much anticipated re-launch of the ‘Centenary Bar’ is due to the efforts and commitment of the committee of the SSC.
The newly refurbished bar has been enlarged to accommodate more than 100 guests and gives bar patrons a clear view of cricket matches played in the grounds. ‘The interior design and the furniture and fittings are based on a contemporary style and the atmosphere exudes grace and charm”, said W. T. Ellawala, the President of the SSC.
The refurbishment project commenced in September 2012, under the purview of Architect Mano Ponniah. The interior design was conceptualized and brought to life by Interior Designer Ms. Chamika Wickremasinghe. The unique design of the bar offers members and guests an elegant and refined ambience that adds sophistication and class to the SSC while still retaining its historical significance. For instance, the cricket memorabilia displayed on the walls adds to the character and charm of the bar while the new design gives it its’ sharp, modern edge.
The SSC provides its members with an extensive range of amenities. The club has over 5000 members and loyal sponsors and it is thanks to these sponsors that the SSC has been able to achieve its facelift. As Mr. Ameen Bhaila, the Entertainment Secretary of the Club stated, “we are thankful to our numerous sponsors for coming forward as generous sponsors of this large project.”
Vibrant, stylish and very much ‘en vogue’ the plans for the Club going forward, promise to make it the place to dine, relax and meet. As Chari Witanachchi, General Manager, Singhalese Sports Club emphasised, they have ‘many exciting promotions planned for the months ahead offering members and their guests the opportunity to enjoy what the new bar has to offer’.
