Asanka Sanjeewa of Arugam Bay Surf Club emerged the Arugam Bay Surf Classic champion for the seventh time as he outclassed his team mates P. Kavindra and Praneeth Sandaruwan in the final to secure the first slot which was held at the picturesque world renowned

Asanka was way ahead in the points when he completed the 250 metre event with the least number of points of three from ten points while second placed Kavindra ended with six followed by Sandaruwan who secured minus nine points.

The open event for men’s and women’s held for foreign competitors saw Peter Riley from Australia securing the first spot followed by Roly Watermusic (Switzerland) and S. Malcolm (Australia). The women’s category was won by Anna Cerna of Chekoslavia followed by Simona Watermusic (Switzlerland) and Olivia Ellie Flint (Australia).

There was fierce competition over the three days of the Arugam Bay Surf Classic organised by Arugam Bay Beachwear who was the main sponsor with co sponsors being Land Rover, Standard Chartered Bank, Cargills Kist, Onda and Wine World with Wijeya Newspapers (Daily Mirror, The Sunday Times, Lankadeepa) being the media sponsors.
