SEARCC 2013 to feature ’36 prominent local and foreign speakers’
View(s):A two-day international IT conference to be held at from August 13 at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo, will be featuring “36 prominent local and foreign speakers”, in keeping with four main tracts, mobile and cloud computing, ICT for governance, ICT innovations and security. Titled the “South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC)” international conference 2013, the event is organised by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), and includes workshops from the Indian, Malaysian and Australian Computer Societies
According to the agenda, available at nitc.lk, speakers for the inaugural sessions will include Public Management Reforms Minister Naveen Dissanayaka, Nobel Prize recipient Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, Economist and MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, etc. These will be followed by a number of sessions offered by mainly local IT experts. In tandem, there will be a number of SEARCC-run workshops featuring Australian, Indian and Malaysian computer society dignitaries, namely; “The Future Role of the CIO: How Cloud, Big Data & Mobility are driving strategic skill needs” by Dr. Nick Tate, President of SEARCC and the Australian Computer Society (ACS); “Utilising Swarm Intelligence in Community Informatics Applications” by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar President of Malaysian National Computer Confederation; “Open Source: Transforming the World” by Satish Babu, former President of the Indian Computer Society; and “The Role Professional Certifications Play In Future Proofing Your Business (and careers!)” by Alan Patterson, the Chief Executive Officer of the ACS.
Some topics on offer at the CSSL-run sessions include: “Near Field Communication (NFC) Technology – Trend or Fad?”; “Best Practices for Secured Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Development”; “Big Data Cloud and 3D Printing Disruptive Technologies that are Transforming Business”; and “Nurturing & Sustaining an Innovative Culture – Google” amongst others.
