Unique amphitheatre

View(s):

It is an amphitheatre in the true sense of the word and the Medical Faculty authorities believe it is the “only one of its kind” in Sri Lanka.

Getting its name from the ancient Greek ‘amphitheatron’ (amphi denoting ‘on both sides’ or ‘around’ and theatron ‘place of viewing’) the authorities say the marble slab in the well is unique.

Alumni come from all over the world and go down memory lane, looking for their names carved on the desks, says Prof. Jayasekara.
The amphitheatre will be the venue of a scientific session with a series of lectures by eminent people in November.
