Kaushalya, Shehan spin Moors to victory

Players make a mockery of schedule by winning most matches in two days

Right arm spinners Kaushalya Gajasinghe and Shehan Jayasuriya led Moors SC’s fight back against Bloomfield enabling them to record a five wicket win with a day to spare in their Under 23 Division One cricket encounter which concluded at Braybrooke Place yesterday.
The spin duo shared all ten wickets between them with Kaushalya ending with impressive figures of 6 for 42 and Shehan who had a hat-trick in the first inning finishing with figures of 4 for 44 to bowl out Bloomfield batting the second time for a paltry 87.

This was after Moors SC had conceded a first inning lead to Bloomfield being bowled out for 223 having resumed on their overnight score of 98 for 2.

This was in reply to Bloomfield’s first innings score of score of 273. Moors SC were left with a simple target of 138 runs for victory and they achieved it thanks to a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket between Kaushalya Gajasinghe and Ashad Borham.

Army SC has already obtained a first inning lead over Tamil Union at Panagoda on the second day. Tamil Union taking first lease of the wicket was restricted to a score of 202 while Army SC in their turn made 245.

These two matches are of academic interest as Moors SC and Tamil Union have already qualified to battle it out in the final scheduled to be played later. The outcome of the matches will not affect the final placings.

Meanwhile Moratuwa SC recorded a convincing ten wicket win over Air Force in the match concluded at Moratuwa yesterday.Moratuwa SC had put themselves in a strong position when play stopped for lunch yesterday and then chalked up their winning target of 50 runs in the final session in just ten overs.

Navy SC too registered an outright win over Singha SC whom they defeated by six wickets in the match played at Welisara while Negombo CC have gained a first inning lead over Ragama CC at the end of the second days play at Kadirana.
