Royal International sweeps Big Match bounty
View(s):The inaugural cricket and netball encounters between Matale International School and Royal International School were conducted at the Bernard Aluvihare Stadium on July 18.
The tournament was organised by Prasanna Dharmakeerthi, the Director of the Matale International School. The cricket encounter was played for the Hon. Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Challenge Trophy and the netball encounter was played for the Hon. Monty Gopallawa Memorial Challenge Trophy.
Royal International School Kurunegala won both trophies at this inaugural tournament along with the Best Player in the netball tournament’s Under 17 and Under 19 age groups; the Best Batsman in the Under 17 and Under 15 age groups; the Best Bowler in the Under 17 age group; and the Man of the Match award in the Under 15 age group. Matale International School won the Man of the Match award in the Under 17 age group and the Best Bowler in the Under 15 age group.
A high standard of sportsmanship was displayed by both schools during the tournament.
Prasanna Dharmakeerthi, Director of Matale International School, Nimesha Dharmakeerthi, Principal of Matale International School, Sandra Beverly Wanduragala, Managing Directress of Royal International School Kurunegala, Major General Sunil Tennakoon, Director of Administration at Royal International School Kurunegala and Chandrika Atmaram, the Principal of Royal International School Kurunegala were also present at the awards ceremony.
The 2014 cricket and netball Big Matches will be hosted by Royal International School, Kurunegala at the Welagedara Stadium.
