IESL in a new direction
View(s):The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) launches a state of the art Membership Management System and the integrated new web front -www.iesl.lk
On the 16th of July, 2013 IESL went live with a sophisticated online membership management system. Being one of the pioneering professional bodies in the country (Est. 1906) and the apex body for professional engineers (Chartered Engineers) in Sri Lanka, IESL has around 13000 members worldwide. Managing its ever growing membership has been made significantly easier by the implementation of this system and it allows members to overcome distance and time barriers to participate in many aspects of the institution irrespective of where they are.
The new system is a software as a service (SaaS), cloud based application. It provides a member self service portal, discussion forums/blogs, a library of multimedia
lectures, public information on membership, engineering news and events, ability for the public to subscribe to the institution’s e-Newsletter (Sri Lanka Engineering News) and events, a forum to post publics’ engineering questions to be answered by practicing engineers, professional engineering directories and much more. All those features can be accessed at www.iesl.lk
All operational aspects of membership management is now conducted through this online tool and all the members have to register in the system. At the launch thousands of members received an email giving
instructions to login. Members who have not received the email should contact the IESL Membership Department without delay (for contact details go to Contact IESL page at www.iesl.lk)
“For the first time in the history of IESL, now members of all levels can participate fully in IESL’s affairs no matter where they are to make a huge contribution to the engineering profession/education, the society/country.” said Eng. Arjuna Manamperi – Chairman of the IESL ICT Committee. Under the patronage of IESL President Eng. Tilak De Silva and the Council, the project team lead by Eng. Manamperi completed the task in five months. Dedicated staff at the IESL Secretariat and a small group of young IT developers from LakAruna - www.lakaruna.org( a CSR project of LakSaviya in Sydney, Australia - www.laksaviya.org.au and CodeGen in Colombo www.codegen.net) made up the project team.
