My kite

I made a colourful kite
Red, white, yellow and blue
And I simply couldn’t believe
It was made alone by me

I pasted my name Savindu
In the middle of the kite
And now my kite was ready
To go up to the sky

I went to the park with my brother
To send my pretty kite up
And when it was going high up and up
How happy and proud was I

So this kite season too
I am hoping to make a kite
A bigger and nicer one than this
And fly it high up to the sky

Being a Funday Times member

I became a Funday Times member on July 22, 2007. This year I completed six years of being a member. My first article appeared in the Funday Times of March 16, 2008 and it was an article on ‘Myself’.

Being a member of the Funday Times has given me a lot of opportunities to meet people and make friends. The Nuga Gama workshops and the Young Readers Workshop are instances where I gained a lot of knowledge and learnt a lot about team work.

An unforgettable and proud moment in my life was winning the ‘Wycherley’s Wonderful Wings’ competition. This was a memorable event as this was my first flying experience.

The experiences, knowledge, memories and friends I have gained from being a member of Funday Times are many.
Being a Funday Times member is so cool! Three Cheers!

How excessive eating of rice can affect blood sugar

The extent to which different foods affect your blood sugar can also affect your hunger. Food that contains carbohydrates such as rice and bread that are eaten on a regular basis will be converted into sugar and will increase your blood sugar levels. This will also increase your intake of rice, pasta etc.

All types of rice, red or white, long or short, contain carbohydrates. A cup of cooked rice provides an average amount of carbohydrates as that of three slices of bread. Most people can easily consume three or more cups of rice. Two cups of rice are equivalent to six slices of bread and contains 90 grams of carbohydrates which is equivalent to 22 teaspoons of sugar. This will rapidly increase your blood sugar levels.

If you want to continue eating rice, replace your usual rice with basmati rice. This is because basmati rice has a low glycemic index which is a substance that will increase the need to eat more rice, which increases obesity. If you are trying to lose weight, try to keep rice servings to a minimum. You can make rice more satiating by accompanying it with non-starchy, high protein vegetables such as onions, mushrooms, red bell peppers etc., and an adequate amount of protein rich meat.
