Diageo Bar Academy – new training ground
View(s):Diageo Bar Academy is the latest training school for Sri Lankan bartenders in the hospitality industry. The Academy is one of the largest bartending training programmes in Asia Pacific (APAC), having trained over 10,000 bartenders regionally in the last 2 years. In launching the Bar Academy programme in Sri Lanka, DIAGEO and its partners will invest in developing bartenders’ skills and knowledge to help them to hone their craft.
Diageo Bar Academy will offer selected bartenders and bar staff the opportunity to develop their professional capabilities and teach them how to create outstanding experiences for their customers. By investing in training for bartenders, DIAGEO, Lion Breweries and Luxury Brands hope to elevate the standards of Sri Lanka’s top bars to that seen in other parts of Asia, Europe and America, where the artistry, craftsmanship and theatre of bartending is widely admired and emulated throughout the world.
The Diageo Bar Academy was launched in Asia in 2011, and offers accredited courses at Essential, Foundation and Advanced levels to cater to bar and hospitality professionals with different learning needs. The academy aims to provide the tools to prepare bartenders and bar staff to become bar professionals, and will offer exceptional development opportunities by focusing on three key areas including category and product knowledge, creating great drinks and providing great drinking experiences. To-date, the DIAGEO Bar Academy has successfully partnered with industry leaders in over 11 countries in Asia, including India, China, Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Eddie Harris, General Manager of Diageo Emerging South-East Asia, said he was thrilled to announce the launch of the Academy in Sri Lanka, which is a key component of the company’s continued commitment to Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry.
