FIFA, the world football governing body launched its Performance Programme in Sri Lanka last Wednesday at the Football House in Colombo. The programme which got off to a start on August 7 will go on till August 13. It will cover many areas, mainly focusing on football management functions. Alongside this programme, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also launched its management programme on the same subjects.

specific needs of FIFA’s member associations, while being made possible due to the will of all parties involved to work together to constantly improve,” Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) in an official statement said.

Further according to an FFSL official this programme will enable FIFA’s member associations to reach maximum potential both on and off the pitch occurrences. Sri Lanka will benefit immensely through this programme as it helps countries to improve the quality of modern football and how the game is managed by providing member associations with first-class expertise, solutions and tailor-made services.

The FIFA and AFC delegates will meet with all stakeholders including all directors of FFSL, executive committee members, officials of the Sports Ministry and National Olympic Committee, sponsors, media personnel, club officials and league officials in order to develop a workable and achievable strategy for the betterment of football.

The FIFA and AFC delegates included James Johnson (Senior Manager, Member Associations FIFA), Herr Brendan Menton (Consultant, FIFA Performance), Stuart Larman (Facility and Infrastructure Manager, Member Association FIFA), Frederis Guillemont (Senior Manager, FIFA Performance), Shaji Prabhakaran (Development Officer, South and Central Asia FIFA), Vincent Subramanian (Technical Development Officer FIFA), Kaita Sugihara (Head of the Development AFC), Yogesh Desai (Administrator Development AFC). The foreign delegates also participated at the opening ceremony of the new office of Sri Lanka Schools Football Association (SLSFA) at the Football House.
