Business Continuity Planning (BCP) via External Consulting: Six Points to Ponder for Decision-Makers
Fact 1: A corporate company must have robust Emergency Response Plan – ERP, Disaster Recovery Plan – DRP before embarking on its Business Continuity Plan – BCP – the ultimate. If any external consulting outfit states it otherwise and markets a BCP first, it merely is premeditated misguidance of a client corporate.
Fact 2: If one markets BCP for corporates, and then compels to panic source experts from other firms, the corporates concerned only get the toiling worth of what the solution marketing company ‘actually’ pays the experts, and nothing more. The end loser is the corporate in such roundabout cases of sourcing.
Fact 3: Any generic solutions marketing company that claims for their tangible inputs in ERP, DRP or BCP solutions is simply misleading the client management. The authentic fact is, even to do the assignment proposal, they dash to the experts, simply because such merchants know only a little beyond the ‘noun’ of the solution they scheme to sell. Listen to them, and we will know how shallow these views are.
Fact 4: Anyone consulting in ERP, DRP and BCP must have managed these corporate portfolios to success in real life. Some daily paid undergrads masked as corporate consultants and those who never have managed risk functions within topnotch conglomerates even for a single day – cannot deliver resilient response, recovery or stability solutions. It is such ill-bred guides who opt to falsify, bluff and even bribe to get and keep business – while bringing the professional corporate consulting to utter disrepute.
Fact 5: ERP, DRP or BCP are not manuals of decoration meant to be placed on shelf display. If those who sell it for corporates fail to be assertive with the managements to sustain its vigour; their motivation has only been to make some money while the vault was open, but not to objectively serve the client company. As it is vividly put across, the fastest delivery by such people is not the solution, but the invoice!
Fact 6: We see some acting as ERP, DRP and BCP consultants, without authentic ability, exposure, experience, sense or focused devotion. They merely copy other people’s work, sermonize some imitated web doctrines, not knowing what they really can or cannot do in real life crisis states. They finally land the ‘heat ball’ on the lap of the client company – to tactfully conceal their professional failures.
The concluding question to ask here is whether such claimed consultants can plan deep, train vibrant and rigorously test your ERP, DRP or BCP without bluffing? Or…have you been taken on an awkward ride, for the peccadillo of not directly reaching the authentic experts?
