Anaz Ashraff – ANC’s Google Student Ambassador
View(s):For the first time, Google has introduced their Google Student Ambassador (GSA) Program, in Sri Lanka. Third year student at ANC Education, Anaz Ashraff, was chosen, among a handful of other students from various institutions, to be a Google Student Ambassador where he will serve as a liaison between his university and Google.
When asked what propelled him to send in his application, he stated that he knew that it would end up being an amazing opportunity to be a part of the Google community. As part of his GSA training, Anaz, along with his fellow GSAs were invited to attend the SEARCH (South East Asia Outreach) Summit 2013 with Google held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia last month. This was a conference for the Google communities across South East Asia, such as the Google Business Groups, the Google Developer Groups, the Map Makers and the Google Student Ambassadors.
“The GSA Summit experience was more than what I had imagined it to be. The people that we met from Google and the other GSAs from various countries were so friendly and I had an amazing time working with them,” Anaz claimed. He also said that the training they received at the summit was like no other, and you really had to be a part of it to truly appreciate it.
Anaz, who is currently majoring in Information Systems Technology (IST) at ANC, has always been tech-inclined. The entire concept of technology, computers and owning the latest gadgets always appealed to him from an early age. His YouTube introduction video, which he submitted along with his application to Google, shows his interest in technology and gives you a glimpse into his personality.
He looks forward to his year as a GSA and is sure that the experience in its entirety will be invaluable. What he hopes to take away from being a GSA is the network he has already begun to build with various personalities from different parts of the world. Additionally, he hopes to immerse himself in the Google culture which is one where you need to work and communicate with various individuals.
As part of his GSA responsibilities, Anaz has begun his first task to build a Google community within ANC, which will consist of a group of ANC students who are interested in being a part of this one of a kind community. His future plans for the community are still under wraps, but he did hint that a couple might include assisting lecturers at ANC to make better use of the various applications and features Google has to offer, and improving the quality of studying for the students. Anaz hopes that through organizing and executing successful events he will inspire other students to apply for the Google Student Ambassador Program next year.
