Gateway College wins Best Delegation Awards at SLMUN
The sixth session of the Sri Lanka Model United Nations held last week at Waters Edge, set the stage for diplomacy, discussion and youth resolution to pressing, controversial issues. In light of the fierce competition between delegations from both national and international backgrounds, representing Brazil, Gateway College Colombo performed exceptionally well to secure the Best Delegation Award and eight other awards.
Avinash Jayasekera, the graduating Head Boy, was named the Best Delegate of the General Assembly 1. Sajana Weerawardana became the Best Delegate of the General Assembly 3 while his elder brother Sanjula Weerawardana received the Best Delegate Award in the Commission on Science and Technology for Development. Devon Mallawarachchi was chosen as the Best Delegate of the Futuristic Security Council. All 4 students represented the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Praveen Muthukumarana achieved Higher Commendation in the Commission on Science and Technology for Development. Minesh Fernando won an Honorary Mention in the General Assembly 2 and Pramuk Kodithuwakku won an Honorary Mention in United Nations Environment Program. Chandula Suriyapperuma won an Honorary Mention in the General Assembly 3.
Gateway’s MUN Club spearheaded by Mr. Anthony Chelliah, Deputy Headmaster Gateway College Colombo 4, well supported by past pupils in the caliber of ThilinaPanduwawela and a few others put in weeks of hard work for this years SLMUN.
The excellent team work of the club led the way for them to clinchthe prestigious award which is the Sectary-General’s award for the ‘Best Delegation’that was awarded to the Delegation of Brazil.
