Mercury Institute becomes the platinum sponsor for the Lyceum Graduation ceremony 2013
View(s):The Mercury Institute was the main Platinum sponsor for the recently held annual Graduation ceremony for the Nugegoda Branch of Lyceum. The graduation ceremony included Felicitation of teachers, presentation of certificates for A level students and the recognition of special achievements in sports .
Mercury who has had an active involvement with Lyceum with a presence in many other events such as Career days, Commerce days has many of their students enrolled on programmes such as ACCA and CIMA.
Addressing the gathering at the occasion Mr.Shaan Jayasekera ,Senior Lecturer and Head of Academic Learning at the Mercury Institute commended the management team of Lyceum lead by Mr Grero and teaching fraternity who had done a splendid job of crafting a perfectly balanced caliber of students who excel very well at the programmes they have on offer at Mercury. He further explained that as the students commence to now embark on higher studies, hoping to enter a competitive corporate world and climb the ladder towards personal and professional success, it was important to make the right choice of educational qualification and ensure that it is one that has quality and value for money .He also stressed on the importance of choosing the right institution to give students the correct guidance who would prove to be their trusted partner in success.
Jayasekera also introduced the University of London Degree Programme offered at Mercury,and stated that it has a reputation for academic distinction internationally and locally. He pointed out that by obtaining this prestigious qualification which is recognized and valued by employers globally , it will open doors to sought-after careers and further study opportunities for the students . UOL has been ranked among the top four UK institutions alongside Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial and is ranked in the QS 2012/13 World University Rankings
Explaining the details of the qualification , he pointed out that this is a three year degree course where the student sits for 12 subject modules in order to attain the qualification. These 12 subject modules are broken down into 4 subjects per year. Mercury currently offer BSc in Economics, BSc in Accounting and Finance, BSc in Management, BSc in Economics and Finance, BSc in Banking and Finance, and BSc in Business.Jayasekera pointed out that thesequalifications can lead to careers in management consulting, commercial banking, financial economist, investment banking and financial management.
He further assured students that the curriculum, based around rigorous analysis and practice of past exam questions and backed by their highly qualified tutors, will ensure that students not only gain an in depth knowledge of all the subjects but will also attain high exam scores. The examinations are in May/June and thereafter the students would receive their results in August.
Jayasekera also added that “ At Mercury we take pride in creating work ready professionals which the necessary hard and soft skills that effectively contribute to the organizations they serve. Putting students first is one of our main priorities. Thus in order to strengthen ties further with Lyceum Mercury is proud to offer a total of 10 scholarships to the top performing students at the A level examinations. Mercury invites students to make use of the opportunity to gain this prestigious degree by signing up for the 2013-14 intake that is now open. The evening concluded with much fun,fellowship and celebrations amongst both the students and teachers.
