Sing-Along with ‘Cats’
View(s):Musical Moratuwa will host what is termed by the organizes as the loveliest musical happening of the year when ‘SING-ALONG WITH CATS’ comes alive on 7 September at 6.30pm at Hotel Ran Mal (Air-conditioned) Gorakana, Moratuwa, hosted by Cataramarans Sport Club, Moratuwa.
This concert, is guaranteed to give sing-along lovers in Moratuwa and elsewhere a wonderful time of comradeship and close companionship amid salubrious surroundings by the picturesque Bolgoda Lake.
The Catamarans Sports Club, fondly known as ‘Cats’ in club, sports and social circles, is one of the oldest and most respected clubs in Sri Lanka. Apart from its chequered cricketing history, it also boasts of a musically charged membership, some of whom happen to be well known professionals in the field of showbiz in the country.
“The ‘Cats’ now on their 65th year have organized many events to celebrate this landmark occasion and the sing-along becomes a part of these celebrations. This sing-along project is primarily organized to raise funds for clubhouse development, cricket and other sports” Mahen Perera, the Catarmarans club president explained to the media.
‘SING-ALONG WITH CATS’ will comprise a wide repertoire of English and Sinhala ‘Golden Oldies’ along with many popular sing-along hits. This two –and half hour programme, is musically backed by ‘Super Pink & Purple’ led by ‘Cats’ member, Lincoln De Silva. The concert would also bring to the spotlight a galaxy of musical stars together with the abundance of musical talent available within the club membership and their kinsfolk.
Heartwarming ‘golden oldies’ and more modern popular songs on the lips of every avid music lover will be featured at this concert. Well known English oldies ranging from ‘Beautiful Brown Eyes’ ‘Red River Valley’ Que Sera’, ‘Daisy’ ‘You are my sunshine’ up to the more modern songs, and similarly popular Sinhala oldies will be prominently featured during the concert. The project committee comprises of Joint Project Chairmen Priya Peiris, the seasoned sing-along specialist of ‘Cock a doodle do’ and ‘Down Memory Lane fame’ and Lincoln De Silva, along with other project members Mahesha Perera, Deepal Rohana, Asiri Mendis, Delvin Pereira, Ruwan Mendis, Suranga Fernando. The Cats ex–officio members comprise of club President Mahen Perera, Secretary Brian Coorey and Treasure Deshantha De Silva.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 700/= per head and are now being sold at the Catamarans club house and other locations advertised in Moratuwa. A free songbook will be given to all ticket holders at the entrance to the concert hall. There will also be a ticket draw amongst other interesting amusements to keep the crowd bonded as one happy singing outfit. With professional artistes such as Lincoln De Silva, Brian Coorey, Priya Peiris (all sing-along veterans of ‘Down Memory Lane’ fame), within the fold of the ‘Cats’ membership, and together with other singing stars, this sing-along is bound to provide a truly enthralling evening’s entertainment.
Hiran Fernando will be the Master of Ceremonies and the principal sponsor is Jubilee Power – a well known power generator company in the United Kingdom.
