He noted that his company is optimistic that Sri Lanka ‘s car market will pick up in the years to come with the massive improvement in infrastructure facilities mainly road network countrywide and young generation looking for elegance and quality which will definitely be an advantage for Porsche.
Porsche Asia Pacific regional deliveries in the first half of 2013 (January 1st to June 30th) rose 22.5 per cent from a year earlier to 2,741 cars.
The positive upward sales trend in Asia was mainly due to the introduction of the new mid-engine Cayman and Cayman S, supported with the high-in-demand Cayenne, he revealed in an interview with Business Times on the sidelines of the launch ceremony of the third generation of the Cayman in Colombo recently.
Porsche car sales are growing mainly due to the success of Cayenne and Panamera models, said Arthur Senanayake, Chairman of Euro Cars (Pvt) Ltd, sole authorized importer and dealer for Porsche vehicles in Sri Lanka. The new Cayman is lower and longer, lighter and faster, more efficient and more powerful than ever, he said adding that it was named ’2013 World Performance Car’, which was part of the World Car Awards (WCA), determined by an international panel of 66 automotive journalists from 23 countries.
“With the launch of the Cayman, we are positive that we will be able to put more Porsche cars on the roads of Sri Lanka,” he added.
The third generation of the Cayman was unveiled amongst its two predecessor models, which were also displayed at the launch, to showcase the evolution of the Cayman models since its first introduction in 2005.
“Despite the challenging conditions facing the car market in Sri Lanka, we are confident with the introduction of the new Cayman model this year that we can demonstrate that Porsche continues to create the everyday sports car by seamlessly merging form with function and performance,” Mr. Senanayake said.
