High achieving 16 year old London AL student join CA Sri Lanka’s inaugural degree programme
View(s):A high achieving student who completed his London AL exams at the young age of just 16, recently joined the country’s first ever degree in Applied Accounting offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).
Nilupul Weerasinghe, a student of Lyceum International School, is the youngest student in the inaugural batch of the CA Sri Lanka BCs. in applied accounting.
At just 16 years of age, Nilupul is a high achiever having completed his Cambridge Advanced Level examination in the commerce stream obtaining two As and one B for Economics Business Studies and Accounting respectively.

A resident of Homagama, Nilupul hails from an accounting family, with his father currently functioning as a chief accountant.
Explaining his decision to select CA Sri Lanka’s degree programme, Nilupul said, the recognition and standing CA Sri Lanka commands in its capacity as a prestigious accounting body is unparalleled to any other institute in Sri Lanka and therefore he believed he could enjoy more advantages by following a degree from a recognized institute in the caliber of CA Sri Lanka.
“My career ambition is to become a Chief Executive Officer, and I believe my education at CA Sri Lanka will give me the additional edge because of its prestigious standing in the accounting world thereby giving me more exposure and helping me to get closer to my ambition,” he said.
CA Sri Lanka is the only professional institute in the country currently offering both a professional qualification as well as a degree in accounting.
