“Trash It:” – By Raffles Colombo for Bachelor of Design, Australia!
View(s):“An exhibition showcasing garments and accessories constructed from waste materials, created by undergraduates of Fashion Faculty”
Friday 30th of August is going to be a day off change and innovation at Raffles Colombo with as the lobby will be transformed into and Exhibition / Competition hosted and organized by the talented students off Raffles Colombo.
The Competition / Exhibition will be a very unique one of its own where sustainability and conscientious design are key elements within it.
The exhibition process, consisted of brainstorming ideas to introduce a competition element, whereby students formed groups – a combination of fashion and fashion marketing students – to design garments and accessories, constructed out of specific waste materials.
Within the student group, a list of materials was distributed as well as a set of guidelines for each group to adhere to.
Some of the materials used in the construction of the garments and accessories included: rice or flour bags, fabric remnants, old magazines, newspapers and bottle tops – sewn, glued, drilled and stretched into three dimensional forms designed to inspire and intrigue, in terms of concept and technical execution.
This exhibition truly demonstrates the professionalism and innovation of our students who are not only original in conceptualization but also responsible in their design approach.
