Bombay Velvet Brings Lanka locations to limelight
View(s):A long nine-year-hunt for an ideal location for Bollywood’s acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap’s latest film ‘Bombay Velvet’ was not ended anywhere in large India or elsewhere but its tiny neighbour Sri Lanka.
Based on Mumbai in the late 50s and early 60s, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, K.K. Menon and Naseeruddin Shah in lead roles and its now being shot in locations around the country.
“This is my biggest film ever and when I was leaving for Sri Lanka, it hit me that my nine year dream was becoming real,” thrilled by his find the ace filmmaker told at a news conference held at Cinnamon Grand hotel last week.
“When we got an idea about the scale of the film, our first worry was to find a place where we could make a film of such a massive scale. We were sure that we won’t make any amends for this film. We wanted to ensure that we did full justice to Anurag’s dream” Vikas Bahl co-producers of ‘Bombay Velvet’ said speaking on behalf of Phantom Films which is to carry out a massive publicity and advertising campaign to promote the film worldwide at a cost of US$ 8 million.
Started in the third week of July, filming of ‘Bombay Velvet’ with over 250 Indian cast and crew will continue till September. The major part of the film will be shot at Serendib Studio at the Ranminithenna Tele Village in Hambantota. Four-acre-land from the Tele-village has been allocated at the tele village to put up sets to recreate old Bombay.
