De La Salle notch up emphatic wins
View(s):De La Salle College Mutwal were in sublime form on the cricket field recently as their Under 17 and Under 15 teams detonated, to blow past the timid resistance of Sri Sumangala College and Hemamali Galahitiyawa M.V respectively, at the Muttuwala grounds.
In their Under 17 encounter, De La Salle College, batting first, put up a score of 238 for 9 fuelled primarily through an aggressive knock of 69 by Nemesh Silva. In reply, Sri Sumangala were sent packing for a paltry 112 after De La Salle’s bowlers produced a decimating all-round effort with Kaveen Fernando, Gihan Perera, Sangeeth Fernando and Suminda Fernando claiming two wickets apiece.
De La Salle were even more dominant in their Under 15 fixture, winning by 293 runs against Hemamali Galahitiyawa M.V. Taking first lease of the wicket, the boys from Mutwal notched up a mammoth 355 runs for 8 after an imperious Imesh Devindra belted an undefeated 112 runs off 75 balls. Menuka Chamara was another key contributor to the De La Salle innings and fell a gut-wrenching run short of his half century.
A destructive De La Salle bowling effort served to snuff out any confidence the Hemamali batsmen may have harboured when they walked to the crease and they were promptly bundled out for an embarrassing 62 runs. Chinthaka Fernando did the bulk of the damage with the ball, securing a magnificent five-wicket haul while Nivanka Fernando (3 wickets) and Dilshan Chathuranga (2 wickets) were Hemamali’s two other tormentors.
