IQA Wisdom Quiz 2013 – on September 14
View(s):“IQA Wisdom Ultimate Quiz Challenge” will be conducted by the International Quizzing Association (IQA) Sri Lanka branch at Kingsbury Colombo on Saturday 14th September. This will be the eighth consecutive year for this very popular “Wisdom Quiz” which has now become one of the “most looked forward to” table quiz events in Sri Lanka with 5 members in each team competing for honours.
The ever-growing popularity of quizzing in Sri Lanka is evident from the increasing number of teams that have taken part in this contest year after year for the past 07 years. Last year’s Wisdom Quiz had a record number of 46 teams and in keeping with the increasing trend over the years, the organisers envisage over 50 teams would take part this year.
The Quiz will be open to Schools/ educational institutes, Mercantile firms / state organisations,, Banks & financial institutions and teams formed by independent groups of individuals. IQA Wisdom 2013 will have Rs 100,000/- on offer for the winners in addition to the IQA Wisdom Trophy. The runners-up will receive Rs 50,000/= and a trophy. The 3rd 4th and 5th placed teams will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 30,000/=, Rs 25,000/= and Rs 20,000/= respectively while trophies will be awarded to the top teams from each of the four sectors. Questions for IQA Wisdom 2013 will be based on 5 areas – Current Affairs, Sports, General Knowledge, Space & Astronomy & Arts/Literature and Entertainment.
Ruwan Senanayake, Sri Lanka’s representative of the International Quizzing Association will compile the questions for the IQA Wisdom Quiz this year too. The high standard of his questions and the manner in which he has made some questions very interesting, by way of visuals, video clips and movie clips – has made the Wisdom Quiz, very popular among the participants as well as those who come to witness it.

The registration fee is Rs 15,000/= per team and IQA will extend a special concessionary registration fee of Rs 8,000/- for school teams in a bid to encourage the younger stars of the future on this mind challenging initiative. As applications will be accepted on a “first come – first served” basis , quizzers who are interested but have not got their teams registered so far may do so early and secure their places in this prestigious Quiz event.
