De Mazenod Sportsmeet
The sportsmeet of De Mazenod College, Kandana was held on May 12. It was a memorable day for everyone. There are four houses in the school. They are De La Sale, Marque, Romould and Alban house. Mr. Bandula Gunawardana, the Minister of Education was the chief guest. The sportsmeet attracted a vast crowd. There were parents, past pupils and well-wishers.
The sportsmeet started at the scheduled time. The Olympic torch was lit by the captains of the four houses. There were many events such as relays, high jump, long jump and hurdles. There were two interesting events. They were the teachers’ race and the visitors’ race.
In the evening the chief guest made a speech praising the members of the staff and the organizing committee on the perfect arrangements. He also stressed the value of sportsmeets. The De La Sale House which scored 382 points came first. The prizes and
certificates were distributed to the winners by the chief guest. The sportsmeet of the day came to an end by 6 p.m.
