Australian University Teacher of the Year
For an unprecedented two years in a row, the prestigious Prime Minister’s Australian University Teacher of the Year has been awarded to a UWS academic for an outstanding record of advancing student learning, education leadership, and scholarly contribution to teaching and learning.
In 2012, the Prime Minister’s Award for the Australian University Teacher of the Year was awarded toProfessor James Arvanitakis from the School of Humanities and Communication Arts and the Institute for Culture and Society and in 2011 to Professor Roy Tasker, School of Science and Health.
Rankings
UWS is consistently placed at the top in Australia for outstanding contributions to student learning by the national Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) in 2009, 2010, 2011.
UWS is ranked in 11th among Australia’s 39 universities for achievement in the prestigious Australian Research Council (ARC) funding.
The quality of UWS’s research has been highlighted by “above or at world standard” results in 29 disciplines in the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) exercise.
About UWS
With a student population of over 40,000, the University is one of the largest in Australia. The University is unique to most universities in that it is a multi-site university with six campuses spread across Greater Western Sydney. The campuses are located at Bankstown, Nirimba (Blacktown), Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Penrith, and Parramatta. Modern, green and friendly, the campuses provide a welcoming study environment and are served by both public transport and major roads.

UWSCollege is wholly-owned by UWS and is the University’s preferred provider of English language, University Foundation Studies and Diploma courses to prepare students for university. Students at UWSCollege are already part of the UWS community and have access to the University’s wide range of education, leisure and social activities.
