Several hundred Maldivian nationals living in Sri Lankan cast their vote at the Maldivian High Commission in Colombo in the presidential election held yesterday. Around 2,000 Maldivians living here were registered to vote in the election. The main contenders are incumbent President Mohamed Waheed and former President Mohamed Nasheed. There are two other candidates Gasim Ibrahim, a wealthy businessman and Abdulla Yamin, the half-brother of Gayoom. A candidate will need to win more than 50 percent to avoid a run-off. A run-off is slated for September 28 in case there is no clear winner. Pic by Indika Handuwala
