Award-winning children’s plays for the whole family
Award-winning dramas “Dangamalla” and “Mama Wenama Malak” by Nalaka Swarnathilake are back. After being staged for a record number of 60 and 35 times respectively, both plays will be back on the boards: Dangamalla on September 14 at 2.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. while Mama Wenama Malak will be on September 15 at 2.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.
Nalaka Swarnathilake is well known for his children’s productions both on stage and on television and has established himself as one who strives to highlight the talents of children. In recognition of his contribution to children’s development he was honoured with the coveted Aryabhata Award in India, in April 2012.
“In an era where children’s plays are not enjoyed by adults and dramas for all audiences cannot be enjoyed by children, Dangamalla and Mama Wenama Malak can be called the meeting of these two crowds for a pleasant time together,” says Nalaka Swarnathilake.
Both dramas can be enjoyed by the whole family. All the children in the cast are below the age of 14 and professional actors such as Kusum Renu, Sanjeewa Upendra, Malkanthi Jayasinghe, Ramani Siriwardena and Nilmini Sigera also take part.
Melissa Algama won the award for Best Actress at the National Award Ceremony while Nipuni Narmada won the award for the Best-Supporting Actress, both for the drama Mama Wenama Malak. Nalaka Swarnathilake invites kids of all ages, parents and teachers and all audiences to come and be a part of a wonderful experience filled with love, fun and laughter.
