The CMSC-UE Sports Karting Championship 2013 which comprises four legs of competition will take place at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama. The competition organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC), Sri Lanka’s oldest motor sport club, will revv off with the first leg on September 12 at Bandaragama, under three event classes.

The second leg of the CMSC-UE Sports Karting Championship 2013 will be held a month later, on October 13, while the third and fourth legs are slotted for November 17 and December 8 respectively.

After the series of races spread from September to December, the ultimate winner will be selected through a specialised tailor-made points system.

For the first time in Sri Lanka participants will race under international level regulations and will compete in three classes, the K1, K2 and Master classes. The K1 Class is for the junior level drivers between the ages of 12 and 16, while the K2 Class which is the Senior Class which will be for drivers of ages between 16 and 30 years. The Masters Class will be for drivers of the age of 30 and above. In keeping with international standards participants will experience rolling starts as opposed to grid starts which has been the norm in Sri Lanka.

At the completion of all four rounds participants stand to be crowned as Karting Champions of 2013 in three different classes. This structure will ensure the development of the talent available and will act as a stepping stone for international recognition for the participants according to CMSC and UE Sports Management, who are engaged in a test implementation of a first ever karters ranking system in Sri Lanka. Further, the UE Sports Management will provide all participants of Karting events in Sri Lanka a performance ranking depending on various aspects of their race.

The organisers revealed that calling in entries for the first leg of the CMSC-UE Sports Karting Championship 2013 opened from September 1 at the CMSC secretariat which is located at, 2A, Hunupitiya Road, Colombo 2 and at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama. Entries will close on September 12 for the first leg. After the completion of the first leg, the organisers will call in fresh entries for the remaining three legs to be held in October, November and December.
