Chinese mesmerized by Ceylon Tea
Ceylon Tea is increasingly becoming popular in the Chinese market and most of the Ceylon Tea brands are now available in China.
Sri Lankan Ambassador in China Ranjith Uyangoda told the Business Times that the import of Ceylon Tea into the Chinese market has continued to increase for the last several years.
Last year China has bought over 3 million kg of Ceylon Tea with a value of over US$15 million
Mr. Uyangoda noted that Ceylon Tea is fast becoming popular in the Chinese market adding that he has sought the cooperation of all relevant parties to further promote Sri Lanka tea in the Chinese market.
Executive Vice Chairman of the China Tea Marketing Association Wang Qing, has assured their fullest co-operation to promote Ceylon Tea in the Chinese market, Deputy Director of Sri Lanka Tea Board Premala Srikantha told the Business Times. The Tea Board together with the embassy organized a special Ceylon Tea Promotional Event on August 29 at the China World Hotel in Beijing on the sidelines of the ‘Sri Lanka Shines in Beijing’ mega promotional campaign. Some 40 media personnel representing TV/Radio, newspapers and magazines were also present at the ceremony. Over 120 participants representing Chinese stakeholders attended the promotional event, she said.
Mr. Uyangoda and General Manager of Beijing GuangTianhe Culture Media Limited Company, CCTV (China Central Television Station) Outlook Channel signed a Memorandum of Understanding between CCTV Outlook Channel and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing on producing a documentary on Sri Lanka, during the Ceylon Tea Promotion Event.
