New initiatives at Colombo Fashion Week’s Resort Show
View(s):The second HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resort wear Show hits the ramp on October 5 and 6 providing a platform for Sri Lankan designers across the island. Last year, the debut Resort Wear show was held at the picturesque Jetwing Lagoon Negombo and this year moves to the south west coast, to the Galle Fort and Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel.
The Galle Fort, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and Jetwing Lighthouse the last unique triumph of Sri Lanka’s architectural legend Geoffrey Bawa will provide an ideal backdrop for the show. The first show on the 5th will be held within the Galle Fort and the second show will be at Jetwing Lighthouse. HSCBC CFW continues to move the resort wear show across the island in order to capture the beauty of the island and its amazing resorts.
“Jetwing as Sri Lanka’s premier hospitality brand is happy to be associated once again with the HSBC CFW resort wear show which brings together two very strong brands. Our association with HSBC CFW started last year where the first ever resort wear show was launched at Jetwing Lagoon where Ajai and team put up a fantastic event. Following on from that this time around the Jetwing Lighthouse being one of, if not the finest, of the great Bawa creations is the ideal backdrop to host an event of this nature,” said Ishanth Gunawardene, Head of Sales & Marketing – Jetwing Hotels Ltd.
The Resort Wear Show will showcase 16 Sri Lankan designers and two international designers. This year there will also be two developmental initiatives launched, one focusing on the retail channel and one on the local crafts community.
HSBC Colombo Fashion Week will be partnering with the National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka to provide the necessary exposure for local artisans working with traditional craft techniques. One such technique that has already been promoted via the Fashion Week platform has been batik with designers such as Darshi Keerthisena and Sonali Dharmawardena making huge strides forward.
Resort wear encompasses Beachwear, Swimwear, Holiday wear and Cruise wear and HSBC Colombo Fashion Week continues to provide commercial opportunities for Sri Lankan designers and retailers. With two shows on an annual basis, the growth and focus on the fashion industry in Sri Lanka is growing locally and internationally. The HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resort Wear show is timed in tandem with the global SS Resort Wear Season.
Key partners of the Fashion Week Resort Wear show are HSBC, Jetwing Lighthouse, ODEL, Colombo Jewellery Stores, Tag Heuer, Hameedia, Land Rover, Spa Ceylon, Ray Ban Vision Care, Dialog TV, the Wijeya Group of Newspapers, Ramani Fernando Salons, British Council, Leo Burnett and Hellmann Logistics
