Sri Lankan Chemist elected to Executive Committee of Federation of Asian Chemical Societies to represent the South & West Asian Region
View(s):Professor J N Oleap Fernando, Honorary Rector of the College of Chemical Sciences and Past President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon , was unanimously elected as an Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies at the seventeenth General Assembly of the Federation held in World Resorts Sentosa in Singapore recently. .
Professor Fernando will represent the South & West Asian Region comprising India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Iraq, Israel , Russia, Saudi Arabia , Kuwait and Turkey.
The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon is one of the eight founder members of the Federation established in 1979 to look after the interests of Chemical Societies in the Asian and Australasian countries .
The Federation which today comprises 31 member associations has also decided to hold its next Executive Committee meeting in Sri lanka in conjunction with the International Conference on Chemical Education that is being held on April 3 & 4 . 2014 to commemorate the completion of 40 years of professional chemical education in Sri Lanka. .
The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon has played a unique and decisive role in providing professional chemical education at the Graduate Chemist and Chemistry Technician level in a very successful , unconventional and economical manner over the past four decades..
