Singapore firm to set up dialysis hospital in Sri Lanka
View(s):A Singapore medical group is setting up a specialized hospital for kidney dialysis at Kohuwela, near Colombo at an investment value of US$1.5 million, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) said this week.
The hospital by the Singapore Dialysis Medical Group (Pvt) Ltd will have 30 local and seven foreign staff.
An agreement for this purpose was signed by Dr, Lakshman Jayaweera, BOI Chairman while the Certification of Registrations was formally presented by Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Investment Promotion to Arden Clements, Manager – Sri Lanka Operations and Prasad Denipitiya, Operations Manager (Sri Lanka) of the Singapore company.
The Singapore Dialysis Medical Group hospital will provide modern and high standards health care service in Sri Lanka for dialysis patients. The central facilities will introduce leading technologies, employing the services of highly experienced international and local professionals.
The hospital will mainly treat Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which is a disease that damages the kidneys. The centre will provide Hemodialysis, one of two forms of dialysis and commonly known as blood dialysis.
“The treatment involves clearing toxins and water from the blood of the patient. It is generally recommended that most patients can be reach the optimal clearance levels by following dialysis three times a week, with each session taking four to five hours,” the BOI statement said.
