Mirroring beauty from the past
Behold the mirror wall of the Sigiriya fortress; not only do they provide a remarkable glimpse into ancient culture, but the flowing poetry and sensuous graffiti also pay homage to King Kashyapa’s six beautiful concubines. This is the inspiration for Dimuthu Sahabandu’s newest collection ‘Perfumed Garden’.
Dimuthu is no stranger to Colombo’s fashion circles; a staple at Colombo Fashion Week since 2011, his collection Narilatha earned him the 2011 Pantene Gen Next Award at the show. Since then he has gone on to present his work on many international catwalks, including last year’s IPL fashion show. Dimuthu is forever on the run-we’re told that each collection involves about six months of prep time!
This year the response to Perfumed Garden was so fantastic that he decided to expand it into several mini collections. The collection is primarily focussed on evening silhouettes along with several day-to-evening smart casual looks. But he’s most excited about finally branching out to bridal wear which he is using as a platform for this collection.
Melache (where his creations are sold exclusively) has partnered with Dimuthu to offer the whole package of bridal wear including bridals, homecoming and going-away dresses and bridesmaids dresses. Visit them at No.29/3, Visaka Private Road, Colombo 04.
