YMCA women’s auxiliary committee holds annual sale
View(s):2013 marks the 35th anniversary of the Women’s Auxiliary Committee of the Colombo YMCA. In many Western countries women were given equal status as men in the YMCA but it was after many years of discussion and debate that the Colombo YMCA decided to grant associate membership to women thus enabling them to actively serve on committees and also to participate regularly in the YMCA programmes. Apart from assisting the disabled and building houses for the homeless the WA also conducts demonstrations in cookery and other hobbies on a regular basis.In addition they contribute towards the SOS Children’s Fund and also to the Bible Society of Sri Lanka.
In order to raise funds for these projects, the WA is having their annual Sale on Thursday, October 24 from 9 a.m. onwards at the ColomboYMCA, 39 Bristol Street, Colombo 1. There will be several stalls held by members of the WA as well as trade stalls. A wide array of goods will be available ranging from refreshments to handicrafts, garments, costume jewellery and other miscellaneous items.
