Prince of Wales to visit Dalada Maligawa
The visit of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales to the Sri Dalada Maligawa during his stay in the country has been confirmed by Maligawa officials after the British High Commissioner and Palace officials visited the Malgawa. Earlier they held discussions with the Diyawadana Nilame -Nilanga Pradeep Dela.
It is understood the Prince will walk from the main iron gate and be received at the Maha Wahalkada by the Diyawadana Nilame. High Commission officials suggested this move as the Prince who sits on Heritage Associations in Britain had indicated he wished to have first hand view of the Maligawa.
The High Commissioner suggested the walk as an alternative to the use of a vehicle, while the route the Prince would take was selected in collaboration with Foreign Affairs Director Bandara. However no decision has been taken as yet with regard to a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The decision to hold a special exposition of the sacred relic needs the concurrence of the Mahanayakes of the Malwatte and Asgiriya nikayas. It is on record that when the former Prince of Wales visited Kandy in 1872 a Special Exposition of the Relic was held to honour the visiting dignitary.
