The seaside in the evening

Boats bobbing in the sea
Up and down, up and down
Children shouting in glee
Near a seaside town

The lighthouse gives light
Which shows a superb sight
As the sun loses its might
The clouds are no longer white

The waves go high
The fishermen catch fish
And the seagulls cry
As they catch fish

The steamers go to the port
The men dressed in white
About their voyages they gloat
As you see this is a wonderful sight

World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day is celebrated on the 1st of October. It is very special and grand for children. Children exchange cards and presents. They play games and have fun throughout the day. Some people take their children on surprise trips to the children’s park and other places too.

Children receive cards, presents and wishes from their parents, friends, grandparents, relatives, neighbours and cousins. Some people organize parties and grand functions on this day. Some public schools organize school trips, parties and school functions during the day.

Also this day is a special day for grandparents. They celebrate World Grandparents Day. They too organize parties, functions and trips. So let’s celebrate both the days grandly.

Little Pinky Dolly

Little Pinky Dolly is very, very happy because it’s her birthday. So her mother made a Pinky cake to enjoy and eat today.
So she ate a piece of cake and a piece of jelly and Little Pinky Dolly kept the rest for her friends.

My walk to World’s End

One day we went on a trip to Nuwara Eliya. We planned to go to World’s End. It took us one hour to reach there. When we went there, they took away the polythene bags and other sorts of paper. Then we started walking. We had an apple while walking. I walked ahead of everyone but then my grandmother passed me. But soon I reached her and we walked together.
We went over rocks and finally reached World’s End.

When we reached there, I thought that it is a good place for parachute flying. I heard that if someone falls from there, he or she will be in another province. We had a snack and started walking back.

My country

My country is Sri Lanka. It is an island. It is in the Indian Ocean. It is called ‘The Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. Its capital is Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte. Its commercial city is Colombo. There are Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burghers in Sri Lanka. The majority are Sinhalese. Buddhism is the main religion.

My country is very beautiful. There are many mountains, rivers, waterfalls and forests. Our commercial crops are tea, rubber and coconut. I love my country very much.

A Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is a diet which contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. Each nutrient has a special value.

Carbohydrates give us energy. Less carbohydrates makes us feel tired easily. Excess carbohydrates cause obesity. Fats help us to keep warm. Too much fat causes heart attacks and strokes. Too little fat makes is feel cold easily. Proteins help our muscles to grow, heals wounds faster and increases our immunity. Less proteins causes poor growth of muscles, makes us fall ill easily and prolongs healing of wounds.

Vitamins and minerals are also necessary in our diet. There are six kinds of vitamins. They are vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K. Minerals such as Iron help in making red blood cells. Calcium and Phosphorous make our bones and teeth strong.

Carbohydrates are found in rice, bread, string hoppers, hoppers and yams. Chicken, fish, egg and milk contains proteins. Vitamins and minerals are found in green leaves, fresh fruits and vegetables. Fat is found in butter, cheese and oils. Calcium and Phosphorous is seen in small fish and milk. Iron is found in red meat, fish and green leaves.

We must have a balanced diet for good health.
