Mohammed Amir case to be taken up for review
The ICC Board held its fourth and last meeting of the year on Friday and Saturday 18 and 19 October in London. Some of the key decisions taken included:
The IDI Board reviewed an inspection report by the ICC Venue Consultant on the venues for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 and accepted the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request to extend the deadline for the completion of the stadia till 30 November 2013.
The format and schedule of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 will be announced in Dhaka on 27 October.
The IDI Board also approved the schedule of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014 that will be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 14 February to 1 March. Sixteen sides, including 10 Full Members and six Associate and Affiliate Members, will take part. India will defend the title it won in Australia last year.
Outcomes from ICC Chief Executives’ Committee meeting
The ICC Board was briefed on the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) meeting that was held in Dubai last month and noted the CEC’s discussions on a number of issues, including maintaining the current playing conditions for ODI cricket and bad light, and the Decision Review System (DRS).
Update on anti-corruption
The ICC Board received an update on the investigations intthe Bangladesh Premier League 2013 in which the ICC charged nine individuals with various offences out of which seven were charged for fixing-related offences and the two others for failing to comply with their obligation to report corrupt approaches that were made to them.
The ICC Board was informed that a revised version of a more robust and strengthened ICC Anti-Corruption Code will be submitted for discussion/approval at the January 2014 meeting. During the discussion, the matter of Mohammad Amir’s five-year ban also came up for discussion. The ICC Board decided to review the matter in due course after the revised ICC Anti-Corruption Code has been finalised and adopted.
Targeted Assistance Performance Programme
Following on from Afghanistan’s qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup, the IDI Board approved a recommendation to increase the assistance provided to Afghanistan cricket through the Targeted Assistance Performance Programme (TAPP) by USD 1.1m.
ICC Chairman
The ICC Board agreed that an ICC Chairman will be appointed to take charge after the ICC Annual Conference 2014. Details will be announced in due course. The ICC Board consists of the chairman or president from each of the 10 Full Members plus three elected Associate Member representatives. Also present at ICC Board meetings is the ICC President, who chairs proceedings, the ICC Chief Executive and the ICC Vice-President.
