Ford would vacate the post after Sri Lanka complete their away tour with Pakistan in December/January.Earlier, there was speculation that there were moves to bring in the Australian legend Greg Chappell or former Assistant coach of the Lankan team, Paul Fabrace, but the moves fell by the way.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Lankan authorities encouraged the Lankan coaching staff to forward their applications and as a result the incumbent batting coach Marvan Atapattu, ‘A’ team coach Romesh Kaluwitharana and the Fielding coach Ruwan Kalpage had forwarded their applications.

By last week the Lankan cricket authorities had narrowed down their search to Australian wicket keeper Steve Rixon who also worked with the Australian National team and former South African born Sussex cricketer Mark Davis who has taken upto coaching after his active cricket career.
