Royal College hold on to J.C.A. Corea Trophy
By virtue of a one all draw, Royal College held on to the J.C.A. Corea Trophy when they opposed Trinity College in their Under-19 inter school hockey fixture at the Astro turf yesterday. At half time the Blue and Gold boys held a 1-0 lead.
In 2011, Royal College won the trophy and last year the game ended in a draw too. So as holders of the trophy, Royal College keeps the trophy for yet another year.
The opening goal of the game was off the stick of M. Gamage who made not mistake when he converted a penalty corner in the 20th minute.
After the change of ends, Royal held their lead till the 45th minute when centre half Marlon Wijewardena equalised for Trinity College off a short corner. The game was controlled by Anurdhha Herath and C. Dissanayake, while Maithree Vitharane was the table umpire.
Royal College win Paul Jeyaraj Trophy
Royal defeated Trinity by four goals to nil in their junior hockey fixture for the Paul Jeyaraj Trophy played prior to the main encounter. At the short whistle, Royal 2-0.
In the 9th minute of the game, Royal opened the scoring when centre half Dilan Kavinda found the back of the Trinity net. For minutes later centre half Pasindu Charaka made it 2-0.
After the turn around, Royal extended their lead when Dilan Kavinda scored his second goal. 3-0.
Two minutes later Royal sealed their win when Pasindu Charaka made it 4-0 to for Royal to regain the Paul Jeyaraj Trophy.
The on field umpires were Ajith Jayasena and M. Vitharana, while C. Dissanayake was the third official. – BM
