Expolanka Freight reduces carbon footprint by 10 %
View(s):Expo Freight (EFL) recently was re-certified with CarbonNeutral by the Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) for the year 2013/14 furthering a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Since becoming Sri Lanka’s first-ever CarbonNeutral freight and logistics company in 2012, EFL has been working in the forefront of this evolving environmental issue. The company managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 10 per cent within the year 2012/3, consequently achieving the predicted target, a statement from the company said.
CEO Expo Freight (EFL) Jagath Pathirane said, “Social responsibility does take top billing in our operations as we contribute to reducing global warming and taking a lead in living and doing business by example and concern for environment. As we also focus on sustainability Expo Freight will look at the recommendations that suggest mitigation and monitoring strategies be enacted in the future to reduce the organisational footprint”.
According to the assessment report by CCC EFL only recorded an 8.28 per cent increase in the overall footprint in comparison to the previous year despite an overall increase of 21.7 per cent in the company’s total mileage.
The company’s total mileage increased due to the increase of third party transportation as a direct result of business growth. However, the company has achieved last year’s target implementing mechanism to reduce the internal footprint by 10 per cent, it said.
The report further indicates that there have been significant reductions in Expo Freight (EFL)’s Key Performance Indicators with respect to emission mitigation. Head of Marketing, Corporate Communications and CSR for Expolanka Holdings PLC Paddy Weerasekera said “this recertification as a CarbonNeutral® business entity, confirms the company’s position as the country’s greenest freight forwarding company”.
