Hollywood, Bollywood box office hits at Lites

Two different films, Hollywood and Bollywood were released on two different theatres on the same day as Marvel Comics movie, ‘Thor: The Dark World’, and latest Hindi film based on ever popular love story ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (English: A Play of Bullets: Ram-Leela) at LIBERTY LITE Kollupitiya and AMITY LITE Maharagama.
Hindi romantic-drama film directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is being screened at 10.30 and 1.30 pm shows while American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Thor is being released at 4.15 pm and 7 pm since November 27.
Starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the eponymous leads Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela had been released following a many legal battles. Originally scheduled to be released on November 15, 2013 but the film screening was stayed by Delhi High Court and on an court order the initial title Ram-Leela had to be changed to Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.
The film narrates the story of Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone) who are in the middle of the hostility and resentment between their families which is an open secret. When truth dawns upon the respective families, a storm ensues, their worlds collide and a bloody battle occurs…Can Ram and Leela carve their destinies amidst abhorrence and slaughter?
The film also entered the 100 crore club of Indian box office. The film which was made on a total budget of Rs. 80 crore, has become the seventh film to earn 100 crore (over 20 million US dollars) this year. The film joined the century club with other 2013-releases including “Krrish 3”, “Chennai Express”, “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (YJHD), “Race 2”, “Grand Masti” and “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”.
Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, ‘Thor: The Dark World’ , one of the latest box office hit in Hollywood is the second Thor film following 2011’s Thor and the eighth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Alan Taylor, the film features Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins reprising their roles from the first, with newcomers Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi and Clive Russell joining the cast.
Thor: The Dark World premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square in London on October 22, 2013. It was released internationally on October 30, 2013, and on November 8, 2013, in the United States. The film is both critically and commercially successful, having grossed over $548 million worldwide.
