The Trinity-Royal boxing meet which has been held in fits and starts during the latter stages will get a new lease when the meet takes place on December 7 (Saturday) at the Trinity College Hall commencing at 5.30 pm.
Boxing at Trinity has always been an ‘on, off’ sport. Even then and despite several stoppages, when the sport was revived in the ’80s, Trinity remained the over-all winners of the Stubbs Shield. They continued to spread their wings when in school and won their weights several times at the T.B. Jayah and L.V. Jayaweera Meets. Royal has reached 100 years in boxing this year.
Chronicling the history of a sport which has a rich tradition at Royal College is to record for posterity the epoch making events and displays of technique and ring-craft, particularly those of World War I vintage, the years 1914 and after.
