Mobitel picks SAP for international LTE roaming
View(s):The Sri Lankan unit of Germany’s SAP recently announced that local celco Mobitel had picked its IPX services, from the global software company’s Mobile Services arm, to roam within other, international mobile networks.
Further, according to SAP; “Through this agreement, Mobitel can interconnect with other mobile service providers around the globe to deliver an enhanced roaming experience over the IPX network from SAP. Mobitel chose SAP Mobile Services due to its strong and growing base of LTE operators”.
Additionally, the announcement also quoted Nalin Perera, Senior General Manager for Marketing at Mobitel, as stating; “With the advent of 3G and 4G-LTE services, there has been an exponential growth in the volume of data being consumed over mobile networks… Today customers expect the same level of data connectivity when at home and abroad. SAP’s IPX network will connect us to a larger community of service providers. This will help us mutually enhance our customers’ mobile roaming experience by allowing them to access data over these networks while roaming and vice-versa”.
Also commenting, Matthew Tonkin, Vice President for IPX at SAP Mobile Services, noted; “Sri Lanka’s telecommunications industry, especially its mobile telephony sector, is one of the more evolved in the region, offering 4G-LTE services ahead of its regional peers… Having worked with Mobitel since 2004, we welcome them into our global LTE roaming community. We remain committed to expanding this community even further and driving innovation that provides the highest value to mobile operators”.
