Union Assurance partners with the Colts Cricket Club
View(s):Union Assurance (UA), one of the country’s insurance service providers, has taken steps to support the Colts Cricket Club (CCC), one of the oldest cricket clubs in the country. The partnership agreement took place last week at the UA head office in Colombo.
Addressing the gathering, CCC President and Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary, Nishantha Ranatunga said, “Union Assurance is very aggressive in their social responsibilities to take the society to greater strengths and greater levels after three decades of war.”
The tournaments that would be played within the next six months are important to Sri Lanka cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket spends quite a substantial amount of money for the tournament, around Rs. 250 million for the coming year. This kind of partnership will help the club and the players during the season, he added.
Union Assurance AGM Marketing, Dharshana Amarasinghe said, “Cricket is not just a sport it is a passion and a way of life.”
UA says it conducted two big community projects for Safety Awareness and Health Awareness programmes recently. It was also able to conduct safety projects at the Katunayake and Southern expressways depicting boards of crime prevention on roads. He noted that since the roads around the country would get wider in future, UA would take safety measures.
UA’s association with the sport has come in many forms and includes many great sportsmen being part of the workforce of the organisation during its tenure of 26 years in operation. This partnership with CCC is based on the objective of creating a better tomorrow via UA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform which includes awareness on road safety and good health habits.
Known as the ‘invincible Colts CC’ the club housed the best English cricketers in the then Ceylon. While having produced many talented cricketers renowned internationally for their skill, the present team also boasts of great potential. The team is led by the Sri Lankan National Captain and member of the Colts, Angelo Mathews and its Vice Captain is test fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara with nine other excellent sportsmen with great potential.
